The RSNA 96th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting is set to begin this weekend in Chicago with a great deal of energy and anticipation. The past few weeks leading up to the event have been loaded with questions about Meaningful Use, EHR connectivity and HIE participation, from imaging centers, hospitals and other healthcare organizations around the world.
There are several resources available on HL7 Standards that can help prepare you for what to expect at RSNA this year:
HL7 Standards resources:
- Interview with a Radiology CIO - A five part interview series with Joe Moore, CIO of Radiology Consultants of Iowa discussing his experience with Meaningful Use, HIE connection and interfacing strategy.
- Images Play a Vital Role in Creating a Complete Patient Record – Guest blog post by Diana Nole, president of the Digital Medical Solutions group at Carestream Health.
- Streamlining a Radiology Practice: Balancing Brand & Efficiency – Success in a radiology practice depends on efficient technological workflow as much as it depends on the value of streamlined brand. This article discusses the value of a streamlined practice and how to establish a competitive edge.
- The Important Role of a Radiology CIO – Radiology CIOs carry a significant responsibility load, supporting a wide-range of initiatives simultaneously prioritized by almost every department in a hospital or network. This post identifies four key needs to be balanced as well as additional radiology CIO resources.
Corepoint Health white papers:
- Interfacing Insights for Imaging Centers: Supporting Each Stage of an HL7 Project with the Right Approach - Identifies the right approach to achieve a more efficient workflow and interoperability by utilizing an HL7 interface.
- Rethinking Radiology Workflow – Discusses the impact of a modern and streamlined workflow can improve service delivery, bring greater customer loyalty, capture of new business, and improve profitability.
- Streamlining Healthcare Interfaces: Gain Leverage in Your Radiology Interfacing Environment - Discusses the primary approaches in interfacing to streamline workflow and meet the demand of providing electronic interfaces.
In a recent post titled, Health Care Social Media – My Confession, Jon Mertz discussed the impact of social media on health care and healthcare IT. In the post he included a call to action requesting more participation from healthcare IT professionals.
If you participate in social media and/or plan to attend RSNA 2010, there a number of hashtags for you to tune into the conversations taking place around the event. (If you “dabble” in social media, or do not participate at all, this weekend would be a great opportunity to dive in head first!)
- #RSNA2010 – The official hashtag for RSNA event information.
- #hcxns – Abbreviated to represent “healthcare connections;” this hashtag is available for information involving interfacing within healthcare environments.
- #HITsm – Abbreviated to represent “health IT social media.” Conversations tagged here discuss the influence of social media on healthcare IT.
There are many challenges facing radiology practices today, so these are important times to innovate and integrate to achieve competitive advantages.
We wish all of those traveling to Chicago this weekend a safe trip and we look forward to the discussions that will follow in the coming weeks as we approach the New Year.
